Aldo Cavallini

Cavallini raced for the Scuderia Giovanni Salvati. His car had belonged to Franco Bosio and was sold to him; he raced it until 1978.

Cavallini won both: the Trofeo Cadetti with 42 points and the Coppa C.S.A.I. In the same year the constructors’ title went to LAB. His engine was prepared by Franco Alloni, in 1973 and 1974.

That season’s record: of nine races he won three, stood on the podium five times and never finished worse than sixth.

Before that it had gone differently. After two years of racing and a thousand technical problems he seriously considered stopping; the article these details come from devotes a passage to the part played by his wife Tina.

The title also ended his time in the class: whoever had won could no longer race in it, because it counted as a training category. So Cavallini too moved up to the bigger formulas.

Four documents record it. The Commissione Sportiva Automobilistica Italiana issued him a Diploma di Merito ed Onore in Rome on 24 April 1974 as “vincitore della Coppa C.S.A.I. F. Monza 1973”. The Scuderia Giovanni Salvati honoured him as “campione italiano form. Monza 1973”. The Automobile Club di Milano gave him a diploma as well. And the Scuderia Castellotti of Lodi issued one on 26 January 1979 for the 1978 club championship — the last year he raced the car.

He appears with five points in 1971 and sixth with twelve points in 1972, then on a Repetto.

In LAB’s tally of wins he stands third with three victories, behind Luigi De Negri and Alberto Colombo.
