Who raced in the Formula 875
The Formula 875 was the class you started in, and it was crowded. Some race weekends drew as many as a hundred and twenty drivers.
Here we gather what can be established about individual ones.
The trophy of the fourth Trofeo Cadetti Agip, Formula Monza 1968 — the plate reads “1° ASSOLUTO”, first overall. It was won by Mario Gatto, twenty-three, a student from Turin, on a CRM: four wins, two seconds and a fourth, 51 points. The championship was decided only in the final round — a single point behind was Alberto Colombo on a LAB.
And the prize every driver received: a key fob with the engraving “X TROFEO CADETTI AGIP — MONZA 1974”. The Roman X stands for the tenth Trofeo; the first was in 1965. The piece is from our own collection; the engraving is shallow and covered by the silvering — the second photograph is brightened so that it can be read.
