Lucio Vergani
Third in 1981, later Vergani Racing
Younger brother of Egidio Vergani, born 1961. He came from motocross, entered Formula Monza at eighteen and was soon among the leaders: two race wins and, in 1981, third in the championship. The engine was first prepared by Bruno Ruboni; later he ran the car with his friend Moreno Lotto from the family workshop in Affori, on the edge of Milan.
After two races in Formula Fiat Abarth and a bad accident at Imola he gave up driving and took to running other people’s cars. With Francesco Marzi he founded Vergani Racing. He is now reckoned one of the best single-seater engineers; for Pirelli he looks after the Ferrari Challenge track programme.
