Zeichen der S.C.A.M. – Squadra Corse Auto Melegnano

A circle of friends became a racing team. SCAM stood for Squadra Corse Auto Melegnano — after the small town south-east of Milan where LAB also built its cars.

Who belonged to it

At its centre were Franco Bosio as the driver and Angelo Lavesi, who was mechanic, timekeeper and right-hand man in one. “Ad amici si aggiungono amici” — friends brought friends: named are Giuseppe Confalonieri, Antonio Bonini, Giuseppe Cremonesi, Giancarlo Santarelli, the Raineri brothers and Carlo and Orazio Riponi, “to name only a few”.

The Riponi brothers were at the same time mechanics at LAB. Passoni’s article names only Carlo and Orazio; the caption adds Giovanni as well.

The beginning

Bosio and Lavesi bought their first Formula Monza car from the Scuderia Salvati: an Ambivero, its chassis made from plumber’s tubing. “Con una migliore organizzazione e qualche soldino” — with better organisation and a little money came the first placings in the leading group.

How the team came about is told in a portrait of Bosio: he came from regularity events, saw what the formula could offer and, together with a few friends, got a car onto the track — “nel contempo nasce la SCAM”, the SCAM came into being in the same movement. The group began to take its first results. This account, too, gives no founding year.

The merger

Later Bosio joined the Scuderia Concordia of Milan. The merger of the two teams brought him, as the article puts it, “home”. On 24 September 1971 he put his name on the Formula Monza roll of honour.

The sticker that stayed

SCAM’s badge is still on a car today: on LAB #014, photographed in Melegnano in the summer of 2025.

What is still missing

On the founding year, the end and the results of the SCAM we still have nothing on record; the 2026 portrait gives no date either. The photographs are marked 1975. If you know more, please get in touch.
