Scuderia Metropoli

Where Luciano Pavesi began

What we know of the Metropoli comes mainly from Luciano Pavesi, later Italian Formula 3 champion and team manager to Pierluigi Martini. He described the beginning: «Ho iniziato a correre nel 1965, la macchina era una Thiele della Scuderia Metropoli, che aveva la sede vicino a casa mia.» A friend with the same enthusiasm was already a member; through him Pavesi got in and to his first race.

In the entry list of May 1965 the Metropoli appears with one car: Pierdanilo Vallardi, number 2, on an Ambivero. The two names belong together — the last win of the 1965 season went to Pavesi on a Thiele he shared with Vallardi. Two drivers to one car was common practice to halve the cost: in the heats each raced for himself, the faster of them went to the final.

Who stood behind the team, and how long it lasted, we do not know.
