Marcello Rosei
Hillclimb champion, and twice close to the title
Rosei was fast and seldom lucky. In 1971 a win was annulled, and to that came mishaps in the race and in qualifying; in the Coppa nazionale CSAI he was left second behind Domenico Tagliabue. In 1973 he stood on the podium six times and lost the final round by a tenth, 25’11″3 to 25’11″2. «The great loser of this championship», the report called him.
He came from Bresso near Milan. In 1971 he became Italian Formula 850 hillclimb champion on an Ol-Ga and moved up to Formula 3; lack of money brought him back to Formula Monza. In the wet he was among the best.
In 1973 he drove a Repetto and a Daco and finished second with thirty-eight points behind Aldo Cavallini. The Scuderia Varazze Corse, under which he entered, was a circle of friends formed where he spent his holidays.
