His championship season of 1967 had two faces. In the first half he won four rounds in a row, in the second he retired repeatedly. The lead built up early was enough all the same: De Negri, from Comazzo, became the third champion of the class and gave LAB its first title.

Among that year’s rounds was the Trofeo Bandini, named after Lorenzo Bandini, who had died shortly before at Monte Carlo. De Negri won it narrowly from Giorgio Francia. In the Coppa nazionale CSAI he was second behind Fabrizio Viscardi.

He had started on a C.R.M.: the entry list of May 1965 gives him number 9. He heads LAB’s list of wins with four victories, level with Alberto Colombo.
