Orazio Ragaiolo

R.G.B. stands for Ragaiolo, Gaudenzi, «Baffo». Orazio Ragaiolo built the car at home with his brother; Gaudenzi made the body and «Baffo», the nickname of a Milanese engineer friend, drew the chassis. In 1972 Ragaiolo won both championships with it.

On the brother there are two accounts: the retrospective calls him Marcello, a 1972 interview Maurizio. Which is right we do not know.

Ragaiolo was a mechanic by trade, born in the province of Verona, living in Bollate, and drove for the Scuderia Meneghina. His age is given as twenty-six and as twenty-seven. The 1972 season began quietly; in midyear he began to win, and on the last race day he kept Roberto Vidori behind him.

He had come close twice before. In 1971 he won the first two rounds but was excluded from the second for technical irregularities and then held up by failures; he finished second behind Domenico Tagliabue. In 1970 he raced a car of his own making, which the lists simply call «Ragaiolo», and in the final of the seventh round he touched Marcello Rosei at the variante.

He later reached Formula 3.
