DyWa
Pietro Egidio Monguzzi, known as Dydo
The name is made of two nicknames: DY for Dydo, as Pietro Egidio Monguzzi is called, WA for Walter Nebuloni, his wife’s brother. Nebuloni left early on, the name stayed.
Monguzzi worked as a mechanic at the Monza autodrome and also specialised in moving racing cars to shows and fairs. From 1969 he built his own: first a Formula 2, from 1972 a Formula 5000 with a Chevrolet engine, which appeared at Zolder in 1973. Formula Aurora, Formula 1 and Formula 3000 followed.
The DYWA-Cosworth 08 of 1979 was entered at Zolder for Alberto Colombo but never ran. The DYWA F.1 0010 raced in June 1980 at the Gran Premio Lotteria in Monza with Piercarlo Ghinzani, 37 seconds off the fastest time, and was not used again. The car stood in the workshop at Canegrate. In 1985/86 Monguzzi rebuilt it for Formula 3000 as the Montecarlo GP 001; Fulvio Ballabio drove it at Imola, where a gearbox failure ended the attempt before qualifying.
Monguzzi is still at work and today restores March-Alfa Romeo IndyCars.
In Formula 875
DyWa appears in no Formula 875 results table and in no entry list.
The car itself settles the class: for chassis 006 the CSAI issued a certificate of origin on 13 June 1980 in the name of the marque DYWA, expressly for Formula Monza. The engine is entered as the twin from the Fiat 500 Giardiniera, the gearbox as the Fiat four-speed with reverse. The car is unrestored, carries number 13 and no maker’s plate.
