Daco
Marcello Rosei finished second in the 1973 championship on a Daco with 31 points and won several rounds. In the final of the last round he came home one tenth behind the winner.
In 1972 two Daco cars started in the first heat of the final round. Before the ninth round of 1973 the stewards found all the Daco – together with all the Santandrea and all the Melesi – not in conformity, but let them start because they had been homologated in that condition.
Who built the Daco
They were built by Giovanni Daverio, a young engineer, in a basement in Milan, Via Carlo D’Adda. He built five chassis; the account gives the years 1965 to 1967.
The engine was supplied and prepared by Luciano Biraghi, Milan, via Legnone — the same man who built the Formula 850 engine of Lella Lombardi and of Fossati. The first car was assembled together with the man who ordered it and painted azure in his body shop.
After three races that first car went to Marcello Rosei — who the following year finished second in the championship, after several round wins.
Daverio raced himself as well. His name is on the cockpit surround.
