Giovanni Salvati, 1941–1971
Giovanni «Giannino» Salvati started in the Formula Monza 875 in 1965/66 and was third overall in the Trofeo Cadetti in 1966.
By way of the Formula 850 he soon reached Formula 3 and became Italian champion in 1970 on a Tecno.
On 14 November 1971 he was killed in a Formula 2 race at Tarumã in Brazil. He was thirty.

The scuderia
The team goes back to his family: in 1973 his father Narciso Salvati and his younger brother Adriano founded it in Milan — in Giovanni’s memory, and to give young drivers a way in. Friends and supporters are also named, among them the journalist Vittorio Gargiulo. Adriano Salvati still presides over it today.
It stayed active in national racing, including the beginners’ classes such as the Formula Monza.
Its best-known protégé is Michele Alboreto. He began at the end of the 1970s with this scuderia, likewise at the wheel of a Formula Monza car; he later became Formula 1 runner-up world champion.
What else we know of it
In the 1973 Coppa Scuderie Salvati came second with 45 points, four behind Meneghina. And the Madis 002 ran for it in the cadetti class – with Alberto Formica, Andrea Lido Gastone, Rino Vavassori, Antonio Macchi and Gianni Dameno at the wheel.
