Restoration of my Laika
Sometimes pictures say more than words
This is how I found her on the subito.it platform. A few pictures show the transport from Palermo to Asti and on from Asti to Thun (more info under “My Laika”).
Interior fittings: This is how the inside of the Laika looked, with major water damage. The water ingress damaged the furniture as well.
Chassis: Tow hitch with overrun brake, lifting mechanism for the upper shell. There wasn’t much rust protection to be seen – bare metal wherever you looked. No wonder that more screws had to be drilled out than could be undone. The chassis and small parts were sandblasted and powder-coated, the brakes, brake backplates and leaf springs overhauled.
Floor: A hole on top, sealed underneath – the water had nowhere to drain away. In places the floor rotted through completely and had to be replaced; when dismantling it the axe did good service.
Further work: Polyester work, paintwork (sanding and priming), fitting the new floor, fitting and painting the furniture, laying the floor covering.
